Tbilisi Medical Academy was founded in 1992 by notable Georgian physician, pediatric surgeon, Petre Shotadze. After graduation of Tbilisi State Medical University in 1970, whole his doctoral, scientific and academic activities were connected to Tbilisi State Institute of Postgraduate Education for Physicians, where he went from being a postgraduate student to the Head of Pediatric Surgery and to the Rector.
In 1999, following the demise of Dr. Shotadze, Tbilisi Medical Academy was renamed as “Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy”. Since its foundation, TMA has grown up more then 1500 graduates who work successfully in leading Georgian and International Hospitals, Universities and Scientific Centres.
Today, Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA) aims to create an attractive environment for studying, scientific research and continuous development for students, researchers and academic personal. In response to the always-changing medical field and modern challenges, TMA thrives to establish its position both on national and global educational map through promotion of academic excellence and critical thinking.

To get Admission at the Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA) simply fill the Application form or send all the required documents to tma@admissionoffice.ge.
List of the required documents:

- High School Certificate or BA degree Diploma (for MA degree applicants) along with transcript;
- Application fee payment receipt.

Application Status:
After submission, within the 7 working days of fulfilling the application requirements, you will get an official offer letter from the Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy. On the basis of the signed offer letter, Admission office will start enrollment procedure. Translation, notarization, recognition and enrollment procedures take approximately 2 – 4 weeks.
TMA has no deadline for admission. However, the University has two intakes. Students can get admission to either join Fall Academic Session (September batch) or the Spring Academic Session (February/March batch).
Once the invited applicant sends the personal identification and educational documentation to the Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA), the documents will be submitted to the National Centre for Educational Quality Enhancement and to the Ministry of Education and Science to obtain the Ministry enrollment. As soon as the enrollment procedure will be successfully completed, the University will inform the applicant of his successful enrollment to study in Georgia.

Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy Scientific Research Department Grant Opportunities: In order to promote international standard activities in scientific research and encourage student interaction in scientific research Department of Scientific Research and Development announces annual grant opportunities for young scientists and experienced researchers.
The funding opportunities will promote popularization of science among youth and their integration in international scientific environment; promote academic reputation of TMA and increasing scientific potential of the country.
Students’ health and wellbeing is supported by First Aid center, which is located on the first floor of TMA, at Objectively Structured Clinical Skills Examination (OSCE) Centre, which is fully equipped with necessary inventory and medication for ensuring quick and efficient delivery of emergency care.

TMA library has a well equipped library which is open 6 days per week, from Monday to Saturday. The library’s Electronic Catalog gives students access to Hinari, Cambridge Journals Online, BioOne, New England Journal of Medicine, SAGE Premier, e-Duke Journals Scholarly Collection, Edward Elgar Publishing Journals, IMechE Journals, IMF eLibrary, and Royal Society Journals Collection.
Currently TMA does not provide accommodation facilities, however, Department for Student Services is always ready to help students with rentals on shared basis.
